The Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) offers bus services to and from the city. In the 1800s, the Carolina Railroad connected the two towns, and the area became known as Winston-Salem in 1913. A portion of the land was sold to the county and was renamed Winston, after a famous Revolutionary War hero. These excellent craftsmen were very innovative and created many items that quickly led them to become a significant trading center throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
